I did it!

Do you remember when I vowed to give up Candy Bars and Fast food for Lent? I did it! I didn’t eat any candy bars or any fast food during Lent! It was extremely difficult but I tried to remind myself this was important to me and something I needed to follow through with.

My goal wasn’t to lose weight or go on a diet. My goal was simply to improve my self control and not give in to the temptation. Before giving both up, I would sit at my desk, get hungry and grab a candy bar. I must have ate 1 package of Reece Cups a day and was at the point I was addicted. If I didn’t get it one day then I was going through DTs and couldn’t function. I needed wanted that sweet taste. Admitting I was addicted and couldn’t stop eating them was what drove me to giving them up. What made this goal so hard was the fact that my office keeps candy bars stocked in our kitchen every day and they only cost 25 cents! So you see it was a CHEAP snack. 😉

I’m glad I can look back and say I accomplished this goal and have gained an enormous amount of self control from it! Now I can eat candy bars but the want is gone. 😀

The same holds true for Fast Food. Not one time did I eat Wendys, McDonalds, Bojangles, etc. I don’t even remember what a chicken sandwich, cheese burger, or chicken nuggets tastes like and I’m ok if I don’t taste them again. I’m sure I will since I’ll be on the go a lot this summer but I do plan to continue trying hard to stay away from them. I noticed I felt a lot better, almost healthier, since I gave up all these bad foods.

I’ll close with saying,

Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with the strength and control I needed to get through these past weeks. I knew that praying to you for help would be the best way for me to get through the toughness of giving up candy and fast food.  Not only did I gain self control but I also gained more confidence in myself and my ability to follow through with my goals. You have blessed me once again and for that I am very thankful.
Amen!

    What a great post. I’ve been trying really hard to stop reaching for sweets…I love chocolate, and I’m so impressed you were so successful!
